Sigma Xi (ΣΞ) is a research honor society for scientists and engineers, founded in 1886 at Cornell University by a group of engineering students and a junior faculty member, Frank Van Vleck.

More than 200 Nobel laureates have been members of Sigma Xi, including, among others, Albert Einstein, Enrico Fermi, Linus Pauling, Francis Crick, James Watson, and John Goodenough. Today, the “Sigma Xi” Research Honor Society has nearly 60,000 members in over 500 chapters in the U.S., Canada and other countries and recent presidents have included Nobel laureate Frederick Robbins.

Professor Concli's appointment as a Full Member of Sigma Xi recognizes his outstanding contributions to research in the field of Machine Design. This prestigious honour highlights his significant achievements and impact in his area of expertise.

Membership in Sigma Xi is by invitation and requires nomination by two Sigma Xi members. To become a Full Member, one must have demonstrated notable achievements as an original researcher in a field of pure or applied science. These notable achievements must be evidenced by being the principal author of at least two distinct articles published in specialized journals, patents, or specialized monographs.
