Short bio

I have done research on nomadism, marriage and death with Sinti in northern Italy. I am interested in begging and gift exchange, and in ethnographic archival research inspired by the mnemonic practices of my interlocutors and postcolonial theories about silenced voices in the archives. Together with my colleagues at the Malinowski Forum, we are researching Malinowski's and Elsie Masson's stay in South Tyrol from 1922-1934.
More recently, I have been focusing on alpine semi-natural grasslands, for which I co-lead the LEAD SNF project "Global pastures". In collaboration with ecologists and designers, we consider grass as a more-than-human subject through which we get a unique perspective on changes in human practices and landscapes embedded in local and global networks.
